Extremely sturdy boards with some rubbing and scuffing, wear to extremities, areas of discoloration, and the joints with light rubbing, creasing, and a couple of areas with subtle cracking starting; light wear to gilt page edges; wear to endpapers such as scuffing, corner loss, and ownership signature in vol. I and II, with front free endpapers detached in vol. III; hinge cracking; text blocks with toning (heavy on some plates), scattered soiling and staining, occasional offsetting and light foxing, with various signs of handling wear such as occasional chipping and tears, with two small repaired tears to frontispiece in vol. III.
