Louis Étienne Timmermans was a maritime painter born in Brussels and trained at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. He established his career during the latter half of the nineteenth century and exhibited regularly at major salons in Brussels, Antwerp, and Ghent, as well as internationally. Timmermans was associated with the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles and became an established member of the artistic community of his generation.

Primarily a landscape and marine painter, his compositions frequently feature sailing vessels, fishing boats, bustling quays, and expansive stretches of water beneath atmospheric skies, combining careful observation with an interest in changing effects of light and weather. He traveled throughout Europe during his career, where his works were collected widely both domestically and abroad.

Good estate condition, slight rubbing to the panel from framing.
