She received her B.S. in Urban Studies from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1960 and her M.S. in Ethnic Studies and Political Science from Governor's State University in Park Forest, IL in 1974. Jolly founded her ceramic studio, Mudpeoples, in 1983, which was an audacious decision for a black middle-aged woman. Her artwork reflects the stories she has heard throughout her life and talks about the capacity to grow, a quality that is present in all of us.
