Originally designed in 1957, this chair is a later authorized Objeckto production, and is featured in the MoMA design collection, with stitched brown leather sling, polished tubular stainless steel frame, black ink signature to interior of leather sling, accompanied by original paper care tag.

Being sold to benefit NC Modernist, a non-profit documentation of Modernist houses across North Carolina.

A rare signed example; the consignor had Paolo sign this chair at a 2006 DWR event.

Paolo Mendes da Rocha was a renowned Brazilian Brutalist architect based in São Paulo. He received the Pritzker Prize and Mies van der Rohe prize for Latin American Architecture, among other awards. He is the designer of the Brazilian Sculpture Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in São Paulo, and his most famous work, the Paulistano Athletic Club Gymnasium, for which the Paulistano Chair was designed.
