Albert Stadler was an American abstract painter and educator recognized as a leading figure in the Color Field and Post-Painterly Abstraction movements of the 1960s. Born in New York City in 1923, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his BFA from the University of Florida in 1950, where he also taught. His first solo exhibition was held at Bennington College in Vermont in 1962, followed by his inclusion in the influential Post-Painterly Abstraction exhibition organized by critic Clement Greenberg at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1964. Stadler subsequently exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and Cleveland Museum of Art. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1968 and continued teaching and lecturing on color theory throughout his career. His work is represented in major institutional collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Kreeger Museum, and Carnegie Museum of Art.
