M. Chapoutier - Wines That Impress
History and Excellence
I’m very excited to share the newest arrivals to our retail shop: two wines from the internationally-renowned French producer M. Chapoutier. If you’re not already familiar, the Chapoutiers are the oldest wine making family in the Rhone, dating back to the early nineteenth century when Marius Chapoutier made history in the region by becoming the first grower to vinify his own fruit. The newest generation has continued to improve processes and push boundaries; current head winemaker Michel Chapoutier became one of the first producers in the region to introduce biodynamic practices in 1991. Since the early 90’s, the wines from M. Chapoutier have earned consistent and widespread critical acclaim and the name M. Chapoutier has become synonymous with excellence in the bottle.
2021 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage 'Petite Ruche' Blanc $31

The ideal bottle to make an ordinary weeknight dinner feel like a special occasion. 100% Marsanne and completely stainless steel fermented. This wine is fresh and clean, bursting with notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom, and green apple. On the palate it is delightfully round, but still crisp, with abundant fresh and candied citrus notes. So enjoyable, and a total steal at $31.
2018 M. Chapoutier Cote-Rotie 'Neve' $268

The perfect bottle for a cold night when you’ve been braising or bubbling something hearty and delicious on the stove and you want a serious (and seriously good) wine with some heft to take the meal to the next level. 100% Syrah from a site with lots of hot southern exposure, leading to super-ripe grapes kissed with a smoky undertone. This wine is big and meaty, but still impeccably smooth and elegant - full of dark mixed berries and black pepper, with a clean mineral backbone. Truly one of my favorite wines I’ve tasted lately and one I can’t wait to return to.
