Top-Notch Palate Pleasers
Tis’ the season for downright delicious, crowd–pleasing wines. Whether you have plans to host a Fourth of July barbecue in your own backyard, are heading elsewhere to celebrate with friends, or are ignoring the festivities altogether in favor of a quiet week at home, it’s a great time to enjoy some quality sparkling wine and/or super-quaffable rosé. Luckily for all of us, I’ve done the research and picked out two top-notch bottles that are guaranteed to delight pretty much everyone. Make yourself the star of the party by showing up with a couple of each, or just pick one out for your own pleasure - to be enjoyed on the back porch during a warm summer evening, preferably accompanied by the smell of something delicious cooking on the grill.
NV R.H. Coutier Brut Tradition Grand Cru Champagne $46

Produced by a fifth generation winemaking family with all estate fruit in Ambonnay, a Grand Cru village traditionally known for Pinot Noir. With this blend, R.H. Coutier bucks tradition, combining 70% Pinot Noir with 30% Chardonnay, yielding a gorgeously round, soft, and clean bubbly with yellow fruits, light toasty notes, and a green, racy backbone that leads to a wonderfully crisp finish. This is truly grower Champagne at its best - over delivering on flavor, quality, and value.
2022 Teutonic Wine Company Rosé $25

From the Chehalem Mountains in the Willamette Valley, this Pinot Noir rosé benefits from the vineyard site’s high elevation and cool climate. A lush and fruity nose is balanced by delightful, vibrant acidity on the palate. It’s the type of wine I love to share with friends or bring to a cookout - summery, fresh, and unquestionably drinkable without being overly simplistic or boring. Whatever your personal feelings about rosé, this is a bottle worth trying, especially at such a fantastic price point.
