Sometimes we get very, very lucky and a couple of extra special and highly allocated wines drop into our lap at the same time. Such is the case with this pair of beauties that we were able to bring into the shop last week. These wines are the pinnacle of elegance, luxury, and true, classic excellence. I won’t ramble on because both labels speak for themselves, but suffice it to say that if you’re building a serious cellar, either of these wines would make an incredible addition and both will make future you very, very happy. 2022 Joseph Drouhin 'Clos des Mouches' Blanc $270

From one of the most highly respected Premier Cru vineyards in Beaune. Joseph Drouhin owns and farms the largest portion of the Clos des Mouches vineyard site, following strict organic and biodynamic practices. This gorgeous 100% Chardonnay is harvested entirely by hand and aged 16-18 months in French oak. Best to drink after 2030, so this is a bottle to hide away for a future special occasion!

2021 Shafer 'Hillside Select' Cabernet Sauvignon $427

The flagship Cabernet from one of the most famous and respected names in Napa Valley. Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine 97-99 points, saying: “As always, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that will spend 28 months in new barrels. Its deep purple hue gives way to a behemoth of a wine that has incredible cassis, black raspberry, and even blue fruits to go with loads of camphor, minty herbs, graphite, and darker chocolate. It's full-bodied, concentrated, yet pure, flawlessly balanced, and has a great finish.”
