There are certain mid-century modern furniture designs that have officially entered the cultural zeitgeist. Like Warhol’s soup cans or Hepburn’s cigarette pants, they are the building blocks on which all the designs that came after them have been constructed. They’ve been copied and riffed on, and we encounter their shapes in airports and waiting rooms, in high end interiors and museum galleries.
In our Important Summer Auction on Saturday, June 13th, we are offering a selection of iconic mid-century modern pieces that fall solidly into this category. From the Personal Collection of Charman Driver and Frank Thompson of Raleigh, North Carolina, we are offering a large number of Charles and Ray Eames DSS chairs, the fiberglass stacking chair that is now the standard for institutional use and was wholly innovative in the 1950’s and 60’s.

From the Collection of Debbie Schulz of Raleigh, North Carolina, the sale will include both Eero Saarinen’s Womb Chair and a pair of Arne Jacobsen Swan Chairs. All of the pieces are original from the 1960’s.
