Tiffany’s Iconic Flatware for the Spring Table
From the latter half of the 19th century, Tiffany & Co. has produced flatware distinguished by exceptional craftsmanship, rich ornamentation, and artistic refinement. This April, our Fine Silver Auction presents a selection of its most iconic and sought-after patterns, perfectly suited to elevate your spring banquet table.
Among the most coveted is the Audubon pattern, originally introduced in 1871 as Japanese. Designer Edward Moore drew inspiration from the Aesthetic Movement and the growing global fascination with Japanese art. Renamed Audubon in 1956, the design is often thought to reference the ornithological works of John James Audubon. Its asymmetrical composition of birds, branches, and flowering foliage, rendered in delicate relief, makes it an elegant choice for a spring table that blends traditional and modern influences.
Lot 1063 Depicting the Audubon Pattern.
Lot 1064 Depicting the Chrysanthemum Pattern.
The Chrysanthemum pattern, featured in Lots 1064, 1065, and 1066; is an ideal choice for those who favor rich and sculptural details. The pattern was designed in 1880, during a period in silver production marked by an interest in naturalism and trompe l’oeil effects. Each handle is enveloped by a fully modeled chrysanthemum blossom, its petals and foliage rendered in high relief with remarkable depth and texture. These selections are suited for a table adorned with gilt-encrusted chargers, Imari palette porcelains, and decorative runners.
Echoing an earlier aesthetic in a modern idiom is American Garden. With low-relief depictions of multi floral motifs, the pattern reinterprets 19th-century Tiffany designs for the modern collector. Adorned with chrysanthemum and thistle in relief along a shaped handle, this design adds a quiet sophistication to the table and invites pairing with a lush, floral centerpiece.
Lot 1067 Depicting the American Garden Pattern.
Lot 1061 Depicting the English King Pattern.
For a more traditional and formal setting, English King remains an enduring classic. Introduced by Tiffany in 1885 and derived from 18th-century Georgian prototypes, the pattern has maintained its popularity for generations. Its stately shell and scrolling motifs provide a refined foundation for a formal feast, complemented by armorial monogrammed heirlooms, horn-handled carving tools, and candlelit warmth.
These patterns, along with many others by Tiffany & Co., are featured in our April Fine Silver Auction, offering collectors the opportunity to bring historic design to the spring table. This auction opens for live-online bidding on Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 am. Pre-bidding is available now.
