Ex. Christie's, London, "Egyptian, Classical, Western Asiatic and Islamic Antiquities," Lot 140B, June 10, 1969. A copy of the catalogue cover and relevant page is available to the winner of this lot. The Private Collection of a Lady

A similar head is in the Cleveland Museum of Art, 52.513. Royal Egyptian portraits of this size and quality are elusive and seldom come to the market.

A substantial, well-formed and highly polished fragment from a life-size statue; filled break on back; the Christie's cataloguer of 1969 describes the head of the Uraeus as "unfinished," however it might have simply been broken in antiquity and has since weathered.
