Dated 1838, worked in polychrome silk threads on open weave linen, consisting of upper and lower case alphabet rows above pious verse surmounting "Irene Abigail Woodman aged 13 years 1838," bottom panel with three flower filled baskets, within a wide multi color bargello border. Presented under glass in a gilt and gesso frame.

Research shows an Irene A. Woodman born in 1825 to Ezekiel Woodman (1781-1834) and Dorothy Knowles (1790-1868) of South Hampton, NH. She is listed in the Massachusetts Town Records as married to Henry L. Leach at the time of her death May 31, 1854 in Groton, MA and is buried next to her father in South Hampton Cemetery, Rockingham County, NH.

Examined out of the frame; overall good condition; with early muslin backing and tacked to stretcher.
