Moravian School Girl's Sewing Box, NC

Circa 1800, the box naively constructed of paper and board and with watercolor decoration in green and brown, box lid features an embroidered pin cushion and needle case of wool and paper, interior with early wallpaper lining.

Box was likely made by Sara Mitchell (b. about 1818). The 1880 US Federal Census shows Sarah living in Forbush, Yadkin, North Carolina in the household of Isaac A. Jarratt and Ellin Jarratt.
