Ancient Egyptian Alabaster Vase With Cover

New Kingdom, circa 1450-1200 B.C., tapered form with rounded base, flat circular cover, both elements drilled twice for attaching connecting cord. Comes with a custom wire stand.

7 in.; 7.5 in. on stand.

Purchased in 1969 from prominent New York City dealer and scholar Michel E. Abemayor, who died in 1975. Copies of the original invoice and cover letter are available.

Objects originating with Abemayor may be found in the British Museum, the Met, The Royal Ontario Museum and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The American Institute of Archaeology still presents an annual Michel and Nelly Abemayor Lecture.
