Lot Details & Additional Photographs
French, circa 1910, rich flambe glaze, glaze signed "EDecoeur" and "MB G1G257."

14 x 5.25 in. diameter.

The Estate of Melinda F. Clifton, Virginia Beach, VA

This simple form shows the mature stage of Decoeur's career as a successful pottery designer, his use of organic shapes is seen in the slight tapering of the body with a flared base, turned and flattened shoulder and raised mouth, thus removing himself from the designs of his mentors and peers. The glaze also speaks to his sophisticated technique of muted tones providing a symphony of color in an earth tone pallet incorporated using the ancient glaze methods of the early Chinese. Altogether Decoeur has mastered his use of pottery, creating a timeless elegance that remains appealing to the modern eye still 100 years later.

Overall good estate condition; two minor glaze chips to underside of base.
