American or English, no maker's mark, its 9 in. curved blade etched with foliate decoration punctuated by renderings of traditional edged weaponry, a polished bone grip with incised cross-hatching is topped by a gilt lion's head pommel, its backstrap extending downward to the cross guard, the gilt metal sheath is engraved with acanthus leaves on both sides.
