Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Oil on canvas (lined), presented in a very fine hand-carved gilt and polychrome frame by APF of NYC (retaining gallery label).

SS 41.5 x 30.5 in.; DOA 52.5 x 40.5 in.

Purchased by Mr. Kendall while living in Peru during the 1960s.

The rise of the Bourbon dynasty introduced French art and culture to the 18th Viceroyalty of Peru. This depiction of Saint Louis holding the Hand of Justice sceptre and the lily sceptre while wearing an ermine trimmed red cloak is a unique confluence of Spanish, French and colonial iconography.

Over-cleaned in areas; on new stretcher bars; areas of re-touch; professionally conserved by APF Master Frame Makers & Conservators.
