Lot 66
Quarter Plate Cased Ruby Ambrotype of a "Civilized" Indian Elder
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Circa 1860, the unidentified sitter having dark skin and native features. Housed in a thermoplastic case embossed with an equestrian lady waiting as a mounted gentleman approaches in the far distance. The interior of the case's lid is pasted with an unrelated engraving showing the "Death of A-Ra-Poo-Ash," a Crow chief on the Great Plains.

The image with excellent surfaces and good contrasts; the case with only the most trivial nicks. Overall very fine condition.
