Two North Carolina Confederate Documents
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The first being a blank, unused octavo imprint for the Confederate States Ordnance Department, datelined in print at "Newbern, N. C.," thus pre-dating the city's capture on March 14, 1862 (excellent condition); the second being an unusual postal cover carrying a CSA #4 stamp and having a Smithfield, NC CDS. The envelope's official nature is explained in the way it is addressed: "To the Speaker of the Senate of the State of North Carolina / To the care of the Secretary of State Raleigh NC / A statement of votes taken in the War camps by the voters of Craven County at the Election for Governor held the 31st July 1862." (Soiled; creased.)
