Money Belt Used in Civil War and WWI

Mid-19th century, sewn of white kid leather, its long pocket secured by six porcelain buttons, the belt having a small silver-tone buckle. According to a card dated 1974, the belt's first owner was Private Joseph Fulford of Co. "D," 3rd NC Light Artillery. He deserted from the Confederate army after the Battle of New Bern and joined Co. "B," 1st NC Volunteer Infantry, U.S., serving the federal cause for the war's duration. The money belt descended to his son Walter Fulford and thereafter to his son, Richard B. Fulford, who carried it into WWI.
