19th century, hand-painted white porcelain, having shield shaped cartouches each with the contents label and a caduceus, flanked by leafy branches tied with a bowknot, domical lid with spherule finial. The smaller jar (10 1/8 in.) with bottom stamp "E. Renault Paris."

Property from the Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Gimesh, Fayetteville, NC The caduceus is the traditional symbol of Hermes and features two snakes winding around a winged staff. It is often mistakenly used as a symbol of medicine instead of the correct Rod of Asclepius.
One with lid chip; one with rim chip; fading and wear to gilt.
