Archive of Nineteen North Carolina Bills of Sale for Slaves
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Consisting of sixteen mostly octavo manuscript documents plus three partially printed receipts, Granville County, 1850s-1861, each sheet being made out to patriarchs of the Herndon and Easton families. Throughout these papers men, women and children are matter-of-factly listed by name along with their selling price. Two of the printed receipts carry the name of well-known Richmond, Virginia slave traders Davis & Duepree.

Intact archives relating to slavery are becoming increasingly hard to locate.

Two documents are laid down to album pages; some damp with stains; all sheets with appropriate age toning.
