Born in Alexandria, VA, Reuben Le Grande Johnston taught at the Art Students League of Washington, D.C. He was a member of several artists organizations in the city and also exhibited at the Corcoran and the National Academy of Design in New York City. He is primarily known for landscapes with animals in a soft palette, like the painting presented here. Purchased in 1977 from William E. Tolley, Inc., Washington, D.C.
