Brass frame construction, by George Lee & Son, Portsmouth, the instrument having "Allen Baddeley, R.N." engraved on the arc and again on a brass nameplate fitted to the lid of the sextant's dovetailed mahogany carrying case, which also houses the detached brass telescope, the objectives, and a January 1900 inspection certificate. Included is the book ROYAL NAVY by Lieutenant-Commander Allen Baddeley (London: Frederick Muller, 1942),164 pp., small octavo, blue boards, with numerous photographs.

9.5 x 9.5 in.

Allen Baddeley (1884-1943) served in both world wars, only to die of illness at age 58 while aboard the modern H.M.S. Victory.

The instrument appears untouched with a deeply toned frame showing several areas of verdigris developing; repaired crack across the case lid.
