WWII American Elbow Spotting Telescope Dated 1943

Made by the Herschede Hall Clock Company, heavy aluminum and brass construction throughout, supported by a wooden tripod with brass fittings, the telescope consisting of a large M 35 elbow with serial number "1016 F A M" and a small M 2 spotting elbow with serial number "2356 F A M," the platform supporting the optics carries serial number "5112 F A M." The large central lens is fitted with a leather cap. Tripod height to platform is 54 in.; width with both elbows is 26.25 in.

Included is a 1984 letter from the Herschede Company describing their manufacturing role during the Second World War.

All mechanisms and lenses work at present but are not guaranteed; the rubber eyepieces are dry and cracked; the metallic elements have been cleaned and coated with an invisible preservative.
