19th Century Cigar Store Indian Maiden
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Attributed to the shop of Samuel A. Robb, New York, circa 1860s-1870s, carved wood with polychrome surfaces, set upon a base fashioned from a log section and secured by two cables.

75 in. overall

This classic American icon is rendered in a fine early style reminiscent of mid-19th century nautical figureheads.

The arms are early replacements, however the cigars and bracelets are likely original; the surfaces have overall craquelure, grime, fading and areas of paint loss; age cracks appear in several places, with some of them having been filled in the past; the toes to the left foot are missing as is its heel. Fair condition overall.
