French Tortoise Shell Shelf Clock and Wall Bracket

Late 19th century, both veneered with shell and decorated with overall boulle and applied Rococo dore bronze mounts, the clock ( 14 x 7.25 x 4 in.) with a repousse brass face and raised enamel and Roman numeral markers, time and chime wind, brass works marked ''Made in France". The clock houses an eight day movement and chimes hourly, with pendulum and working but not original key.

Estate of the late Dr. Stewart Penfold Blake of Palo Alto, CA and Charlotte, NC Stewart Penfold Blake (Col. USArmy Ret.) was a proud soldier, superb story-teller, lover of music from Mozart to Benny Goodman, gracious host, wine connoisseur and knowledgeable art lover. Among his many proud accomplishments were his design of the test track for Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany and his design for carrying Venezuelan oil from the fields to the sea. His estate represents his life in appreciation of history and diverse cultures.
