Centering on one Old European cut diamond weighing 4.16 carats (I2 clarity, K color) set within an exceptional platinum filigree mounting depicting bows which hold the diamond in place, completed by its original engraved shank, mounted in unmarked but tested platinum. Of descent from the family of John Motley Morehead, 29th Governor of North Carolina, 1841-1845, who presented the ring as a gift to his daughter, Emma Morehead Gray, who bequeathed the ring to her daughter, Eugene Gray Hack.

An extremely well made and very unusual mounting of the period.
