A native of Maine and a Union Army veteran, Webber was a self-taught and highly accomplished landscape artist based in Boston and, later, in New York. Many of his scenes were painted from life in New Hampshire.

Some surface grime and yellowing of varnish; minor chipping to the frame corners; the frame with gold overpaint; black light inspection reveals a small spot touch-up in upper left corner.
