Oil on canvas, an engraved silver plate set into the gilt and gesso frame reads, "Presented to the family of the Rev. A. D. Pollock, late pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, Richmond. By the Ladies of the Church and congregation as an expression of their affection and regards for him. June 1843."

Pennsylvania native Abraham David Pollock (1807 - 1890) began his ministry in Western Virginia during the 1830s. He married Elizabeth Gordon Lee, first cousin to Robert E. Lee, and spent his entire career in the Old Dominion. No doubt his intimate tie to the Lee Family enhanced his position in society.

Overall craquelure; some chipping to the frame.
