Oil on canvas, by unknown itinerant artist, half length portrait of Mr. McLin seated with right hand resting on arm of a chair, presented in a period gilt wood frame.

By descent through the family of Judge & Mrs. Daniel Long Bell, Pittsboro, North Carolina Judge Bell served a two year term in the NC Legislature for Chatham County. He was born in Enfield, Halifax County in 1894 to David and Eliza Ann (McLin) Bell.

Mr. Henry McLin of New Bern and Wilmington, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1833 with an A.B. degree and in 1850 received his A.M. degree. He was both a lawyer and a druggist. The Thomas McLin House, built circa 1810 by Henry's father, still stands in New Bern on Middle Street.
