George III Chippendale Secretary Desk

Late 18th century, mahogany and mahogany veneers, two part form, the top having a quatrefoil pierced broken arch pediment above a veneered frieze, the secretary doors are paneled with quarter fan inlay to the upper corners and enclose an adjustable shelved interior. The lower desk features a molded slant lid over a finely detailed interior including a patera inlaid prospect, over four graduated cock-beaded drawers, raised on shaped bracket feet.

Left side of bookcase with crack and chip; left upper door with shrinkage crack; warp to desk lid; later leather writing surface; patch to case where lock joins; splits and fill to sides of desk; other expected wear.
