Jacob Harsen (1750-1835) was the father of Cornelius Harsen and the grandfather of Dr. Jacob Harsen. He descended from the old Dutch settlers of New York and built a farm west of Tenth Avenue, between 70th and 71st streets in New York. The area became known as "Harsenville" in the early 19th century, before it was overtaken by the development of the city. Another portrait of Mr. Harsen is housed in the New York Historical Society Collections.
