Sir John Lamont became clan chief in 1767 and inherited the Ardlamont Estate in Argyllshire. In 1773, he married Helen Campbell, with whom he had five children. Lamont enjoyed a busy social life in London and Edinburgh. In 1796 he purchased a town home designed by Robert Adam in Edinburgh's "The New Town." This home is now open to the public and restored to show as it was when during Lamont's lifetime.
