Accompanied by a photocopy of a letter from the artist to his patron, dated March 25, 1943. Cederquist's work was well received during his lifetime, including an exhibition in 1930 at the Whitney Studio Galleries alongside Beauford Delaney, Prosper Invernizzi, and Kalman Oswald. A 1929 New York Times review of Cederquist's paintings, Lloyd Goodrich described his work as picturing "nature in fresh and unhackneyed aspects with absolute and very attractive candor and honesty."
