Considered to be one of the major Latin American artists of the 20th century, Soriano studied art at Havana's Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro. He graduated in 1943 and returned to Matanzas, his birthplace. He continued to teach art while there, and also helped found the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Mantanzas. In 1962 he left for Miami with his family where he continued to practice his art and taught at several local institutions. Soriano's work was featured this year in an exhibit at the Lowe Art Museum in Miami. His paintings are in several prominent collections including the Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C. and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana.
