A magic realist, Vickrey followed in the footsteps of George Tooker and Paul Cadmus after graduating from Yale in 1950. LIke them, Vickrey used the exacting medium of egg tempera after learning the technique from Lewis York at Yale He also studied for a time under Reginald Marsh at the Art Students' League. His work has been examined in several exhibitions and monographs in recent years.
