A collection of five portrait miniatures, each oil on card, signed "Doares," and depicting a woman in traditional ethnographic dress - Polynesian, Inuit, Native American, and (2) Southeast Asian. Each in custom gold painted frame.

DOA 5.5 x 5.5 in. and 4.25 x 4.25 in.

Robert Doares was a noted illustrator from North Carolina. He produced cover art for many pulp magazines during the 1950s and also illustrated books such as THE SOJOURNER by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. He continued his artistic pursuits throughout his life, specializing in Christian themes as he grew older. Born in Robeson County in 1911, he left for New York City after graduating high school in 1929 to become an artist. While in New York, he studied with renowned illustrator Harvey Dunn at the Grand Central School of Illustration.
