Union Veteran's Large Wooden Cannon Keepsake
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Being a homemade approximation of a 12-pound Napoleon field piece and made entirely of wood. An early tape label on the barrel is inscribed "Souvenir of the Battle of Kennesaw brought back / home to Washington May 5th 1865 by 1st Sgt. Mc----." Unfortunately, the sergeant's name is incomplete. Was this a Confederate "quaker" gun or a model made from battlefield wood? Regardless, this enigmatic trophy likely graced a GAR hall after the war.
