Percussion, .58 caliber, walnut stock, 40 in. barrel secured by three bands, 56 in. overall length, iron furniture throughout, lockplate marked U.S. / SPRINGFIELD with 1864 production date behind the hammer, early tulip-head ramrod. Complete with socket bayonet marked U.S.

Working action at full and half cock; decent surfaces; hairlines to the stock on both sides of the breech with minor wood loss behind the nipple; pitting to iron elements near the hammer is consistent with field use; the bayonet retains its original finish. Overall an attractive example of the Union Army's standard longarm. Very good condition.
