Mid-19th century, brass mounted, the velvet line fitted case retains most of its original bottles and containers. The velvet interior lid folds down to reveal a secret letter file and a removable mirror, the case is fitted with a tray that lifts to reveal a well likely used for jewelry. The cosmetic containers are of cut glass with decorative silver tone lids.

5.5 x 13 x 9 in.

Brass plaque on lid engraved "C.L. Hopkinson", making this undoubtedly the case carried on Carolina's European honeymoon and which descended in the family.

Overall fair condition; the case with crack to top and some brass loss; lock not functional; all fabric in deteriorated and fragile condition; (2) original bottles missing; removable mirror without silver.
