North Carolina Inlaid Sugar Chest on Stand

Circa 1820-30, walnut with poplar secondary, Western Piedmont origin, the two part form consists of a chest with hinged lid and two original interior dividers set into a two graduated drawer base. The chest features a top with applied molded edge and half blind dovetailed case. The base has upright horizontal moldings to three sides, thus stabilizing the chest, and is distinguished by cock-beading to the drawers, cross-banded veneer, and light wood line inlay. The stiles, decorated with intertwined line inlay, taper to form feet.
