Early 19th century, probably Guilford County, two part form, walnut with poplar secondary, the top with molded cornice, two doors each with eight lights (some replaced), flanked by fluted quarter columns. The base has a slant lid over a divided interior over four graduated lipped drawers flanked by conforming quarter columns, raised on ogee feet. Both upper and lower sections are decorated with delicate lightwood line inlay.

Private Collection from a 40 year collector and dealer in New Bern, North Carolina Acquired from Dr. Edward P. Benbow Jr., Oriental, North Carolina Dr. Benbow Jr. (1915-2001) descended from the Benbow Family of Guilford County, North Carolina. Originally from Wales, his Quaker ancestors settled in the Oak Ridge community in western Guilford County in the mid to late 18th century. The family is associated with the early development of the textile industry in North Carolina, as well as having a significant role in the establishment of two local educational institutions, what is now Oak Ridge Military Academy and Guilford College.

Some interior desk compartments rebuilt; slant lid hinges broken out with replacement wood to lid; right rear foot replaced; all feet reduced in height.
