Attributed to William Savery (1721-1787), Philadelphia, circa 1760-1770, walnut, shaped shell carved crest with scrolled ears, pierced transitional vasiform splat, shaped arm and arm support with scrolled knuckle, slip seat, seat rail with central drop, cabriole legs with shell carved knee and raised stocking foot, rear stile with double through mortise and tenon construction and chamfered rear down swept legs.

Reference: Down, Joseph, AMERICAN FURNITURE: QUEEN ANNE AND CHIPPENDALE PERIODS (1725-1788), plates 39 and #112.

Repair to left arm joint at stile; repair to left arm support at seat rail joint; replaced front brace blocks; break and repair to left front side rail; crack and repair on the crest below the ears at the top stile joint. Overall very good original condition.
