Signed "C. C. Rumsey" behind the subject's tail, foundry marked on the lower rear side with an outline of Rumsey's celebrated "Centaur" sculpture and numbered 3/25. A wealthy and socially prominent Harvard graduate, Rumsey maintained a New York studio after having studied in Paris. He is best known for equestrian and wildlife bronzes.
