Silver gelatin print, 11 x 14 in.,1929, lower right margin blind stamped "Clarence Sinclair Bull," the verso stamped "Kindly Credit - Photo by / Clarence Sinclair Bull / Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer," "Used Aug 1929" and "Property of Photoplay Magazine / Return to Library." Pencil notations and an editor's initials are also present. Behind glass in a period appropriate plain wooden frame. Joan Crawford is shown lounging in her new Brentwood, California home shortly after wedding Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. To her right is a piano upon which rests a framed photograph of the newlyweds embracing. This portrait of Crawford was slated for an article in "Photoplay" magazine titled "How They Manage Their Homes." The blurb preceding the copy reads "Joan Crawford planned her house as the setting for a perpetual honeymoon." Her marriage lasted only four years; however, Ms. Crawford retained the home for some twenty-five years. The photographer, Clarence Bell (1896 - 1979) was stills director for MGM for forty years and is especially noted for his portraits of Crawford's rival, Greta Garbo.

DOA 14.25 x 16.75 in.

Marginal creases and grease pencil crop marks; perforated corners; pinholes of emulsion loss in upper and lower areas of image have evidence of being touched up; soiling on verso. Overall fine appearance, especially in its frame.
