Carol Fortunato originally trained as an illustrator at the School of Visual Arts in New York. While there she was inspired by the finely articulated drawings and paintings of Harvey Dinnerstein and decided to continue the study of representational painting at the Art StudentÕs League. Her recent passion, still lifes, is inspired by the singular beauty of smaller works by Chardin. Each painting is lushly brought to life on prepared birch panels. In 2008, Carol received the Salmagundi Club American Artist's Professional League Award. That same year her still lifes were exhibited at the James Beard FoundationÕs Greenhouse Gallery.
