C. B. Masten Glazed Vase, NC Pottery
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Circa late 1920s, earthenware footed vase with green and brown swirl glazed decoration over white base glaze; with "Rainbow Pottery, Sanford, NC" ink stamp to underside. Based on an interview with A.R. Cole's daughter, Neolia, and Kenneth George, his great grandson, it is likely the vase was bought from Auman Pottery and stamped by Sylvester Leverette of Sanford, NC. Mr. Leverette, from 1934-1938, had a contract with A.R. Cole for all the pottery he and his family produced and had possession of the ink stamp. Other pieces have surfaced with this same early Rainbow stamp that were not made by A.R. Cole.
