North Carolina Leather Key Basket

Diminutive rectangular form with tooled line decoration and rolled handle with decorative metal fixtures at base of handle application, with green fabric lining to interior. Accompanied with note signed by Mrs. W. Ge. Waltz stating, " Grand Mother Bullock's Key Basket / made in 1850." A later notation on card reads, "Made by one of Hugh McAden's sons for Henrietta Fleming. H. McA. owned and operated a Tan yard at old Oak Hill, Granvile Co. The business specialized in fine leathers. Cousin Fannie told me this - KBR." Key Basket is by direct descent of the family.
