Produced by John Stewart, circa 1950. Constructed of solid walnut and secondary woods of walnut and white pine. The base has two tambour doors beside four drawers. The top section features a fall front desk, cabinet and two shelves. A black round metal tag is located in one drawer which reads: "John Stewart Inc. New York Grand Rapids." The entire piece is raised on four round legs with stretchers. The back of the cabinet is faintly stamped in black: "Made In Denmark / Sale Distribution(?) For / United States" with a circular ink label underneath, and the number 33 pressed into the wood. Danish designer Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) was trained as an architect and as cabinetmaker at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. He exhibited regularly at the Cabinetmaker's Guild exhibitions, as a designer and as an exhibition architect, and also taught at the School of Arts and Crafts from 1942-45. Hvidt had pieces exhibited in 1951 as part of the "Good Design" show sponsored by the MoMA.

While John Stewart produced furniture in America, he also imported pieces from Denmark.

There is a small 1.5 in. sliver of wood missing from the back right corner. Overall very good condition.
